When I first started trying to grow my audience on Spotify, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I had been releasing music for less than a year, and I was desperate to figure out a way to reliably get more streams on the platform.
For months, I tried everything I could find to test:
Playlisting
Blog submissions
Desperately making content about my songs
Note: 👆🏻 That last video still has only 2 views.
None of it seemed to work, and I felt like I was destined to stay in the “less than 1,000 streams on every track” club.
We all know that pain, don’t we?
Figuring it out
Then I discovered Facebook ads. I had tried advertising before, with few results, but I decided to give it another shot.
I’m glad I did.
This time around, I decided to actually take this whole “music marketing” thing more seriously. Instead of simply boosting posts and hoping for the best, I went down the rabbit hole and began learning about Business Manager, how to properly target my audience, why placements matter, and, most importantly, how to actually make a good ad!
As I chipped away at each of these parts of the process, the results began to show up.
I started getting followers on Spotify, and the streams came as a natural byproduct.
Taking control of my future
Once I got a handle on how to create a compelling ad, where to place it, and who to target, I was finally able to say goodbye to the things I despised about being an independent artist:
No more begging playlisters
No more begging bloggers
No more making content no one wants to consume
I had figured out a way to predictably and reliably grow my audience (and my streams) on Spotify, virtually on autopilot.
Now, every time I release a new song, I have a built-in fan base that is excited to hear my music, as well as a process for delivering my music to new listeners.
I simply drop every track into the system I’ve built, and the machine takes care of the rest.
